My Program
My approach is to listen to the present issues and concerns of each client regarding their food and health, and guide them to make the best choices they can, given their circumstances. I use a combination of Ayurvedic medicine and nutritional theory as tools to assess which changes could reap maximum benefits for each client. A series of small adjustments has proven to be the best way to enact lasting change and longevity of health. It is our lifestyles, more so than any diet we may be on, that will determine the quality of our health, and ultimately, our happiness.
Our bodies are constantly going through change; we grow older, the seasons come and go, and our daily schedule may bring about any number of fluctuations. Our best defense against poor health, stress, or depression is in being able to recognize subtle changes in our body and emotions, which can lead to more serious imbalances when left unchecked. Irritability can lead to acne, gas and bloating could signal insomnia or anxiety, increased mucous may be an early marker for depression. As we learn our own individual cycles, we can adjust our diet and activities to maintain stability and health.
Using a combination of Integrative Nutrition and Ayurvedic treatments, I work with clients in a program that is tailored to each individual’s goals and needs. Some clients come for over 9 months, others for as few as two sessions. My work combines the use of therapeutic nutrition, herbs, body therapies, and counseling to bring lasting health and vitality to my clients. I address a variety of health concerns such as:
- Female vitality and reproduction
- Digestive disorders
- Weight loss
- Problem skin
- Exhaustion and fatigue
- Allergies, joint pain, and other chronic conditions
- Anxiety and depression
One more element I feel is important on any healing journey is to have the support of family. Aside from the challenges of diverse tastes and preferences are the issues of family relational dynamics. Getting everyone on board- from spouses to children, can be a trial. To that end, I offer a family cooking class, and have an arsenal of ideas to gently introduce new concepts to a skeptical audience. It’s common knowledge that community support goes a long way in improving one’s chances of staying on a healthy path.
Body Therapies:
Abhyanga
This is a detoxifying warm oil massage. I choose the appropriate oil for your constitution, then perform a series of strokes that draw toxins out of the tissue and cells to be purged by the digestive system. Spring and Fall are the best times for an abhyanga, since the body goes through a natural cleansing process, but they are wonderful for cold dry skin in the winter too!
Nasya
Perfect for those with sinus trouble, seasonal allergies, or who feel mentally sluggish, this is a warm brisk face, head, and neck massage. Using with a special oil to stimulate and open the channels to the brain, this is a deeply satisfying and invigorating treatment!
Foot and Head Massage
The feet and head are end points of hundreds of thousands of nerve endings. A good foot massage can do wonders for your mood and wellbeing. And if you’ve never had a head massage, lying comfortable and fully clothed on the table while the stress is coaxed from your mind: it’s a true gift to give yourself.
T’ai Chi or Yoga
Some clients are interested in exploring different forms of exercise. In my office, there is space for us to do a gentle session of either yoga or t’ai chi. It is sometimes nice to be introduced to the concepts or movements in a private, non-judgmental environment.
