About Me

I grew up eating a Standard American Diet, and though my mother was an "accomplished" cook, I was often sick and had terrible allergies. I had a ferocious sweet tooth, and was addicted to sugar- especially chocolate! After college, I worked as a sign language interpreter and volunteered at a place called Smile Herb Shop in College Park, MD. It was there that I discovered my love of natural healing and my interest in Ayurveda.

Brooksley Williams with SunflowersI became convinced that keeping closely attuned to the laws of nature provided health and longevity. The Earth has been here for billions of years, and as a part of the earth, humans should be able to maintain and heal their bodies and minds using natural laws and remedies.

I moved out to California to pursue my interest in Ayurveda at the California College of Ayurveda. Through my time there, I was able to travel to India and the island of Kauai to further my studies and specialize my training in Pancha Karma- a unique cleanse that Ayurveda offers. Leading up to and following my graduation in the year 2000, I apprenticed with an Ayurvedic vaidya and eventually opened up my own practice in San Francisco, CA.

I joined the board of directors of the California Association of Ayurvedic Medicine and helped to host two Ayurvedic Conferences in the Bay Area. Also during that time, a colleague and I led two groups of women from St. Mary's College on a January term trip back to Kauai. We studied alternative healing practices such as Aromatherapy, Homeopathy, Acupuncture and Ayurveda and visited healers around the island. We practiced living in a health conscious way during the month there. It's not too hard being healthy on a beautiful island like Kauai!!

Eventually I knew I had to return to my roots, so in 2002 my dog Kava and I packed up and moved east. Before re-opening my practice I decided to broaden my training at the Institute for Integrative Medicine in New York. We studied diets from all over the world and learned how work, relationships, exercise, and spirituality all have an effect on our relationship with food. It's not just what you eat, but why, when, and how that matters too!

I opened Eat Consciously Ayurveda in the Spring of 2005 and have been seeing clients in my home office since that time. I live in Northampton, MA with my husband, daughter, and our dog Kava.
